What can color do for you?

The color of gemstones is certainly part of their whole energetic make up that we identify with and love to look at and wear. Everything is made up of color, as this painting I did of rock molecules indicates.
The fact of the matter is that everything is made up of electromagnetic energy vibrating at different frequencies that correspond to sound, light and color.

I believe that we are drawn to the colors needed to create balance in our lives, which is the purpose and the goal in all healing. Colors attract us to certain clothing and accessories, colors in our homes, and even the foods we eat. Colors make us happy, and they can inspire our imagination and creativity.

Within the pure light of the sun are the seven colors of the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Everything we see and touch is made up of some combination of these colors.

Each color emits a different wave length and energy frequency. These energetic frequencies range from red – the lowest vibration (longest wavelength) to violet the highest frequency (shortest wavelength). These different color frequencies affect the well-being of the spirit, mind and emotions.

The use of color as a symbol reflects an integral part of our lives and the language we use to describe our physical health and emotions, as well as mental and spiritual states. The most common examples are “looking at the world through rose-coloured glasses”, “green with envy”, “feeling blue”, “seeing red”,  and so on.
In addition to these symbolic expressions, each color emits a subtle energy vibration that interacts with the energy system of the human body to help balance and stabilize physical, emotional, mental and spiritual conditions.

Also, on a more esoteric level, color has been linked with the Archangels. Doreen Virtue, Ph.D  says that there are 15 archangels and each is part of a specific color ray.

The human energy system includes the seven chakras, which are the key regulators of the energies coming into and going out of the body.

As a symbol, color plays an integral role in our well-being and can have a powerful effect in reconnecting us to nature and bringing balance and harmony into our lives.

Lets talk about some of the basic colors in our lives:

Red is the color of emotion. It is metaphysically linked to the kundalini or 6th chakra. It is liked to sexual energy and also the energy of creation.
The gemstones linked to this color energy are rubies and garnets, to name the most common.
Some of the things that come to mind with red are aggression, anger, stop, Communism, danger, fire, hate, hell,  passion
Some  examples of phrases using red are “caught red-handed”, meaning either caught in an act of crime or caught with the blood of murder still on one’s hands. At one point, red was associated with prostitutes, or now, with brothels (red-light districts). Or “seeing red”like blind anger, and “in the red” , meaning tapped out financially–in any case all meaning fairly low energies.

But  on the positive side, red can also mean fierce or brave and strong . Examples of this are found in the flags of many nations including the United States.

Blue is the color of perception.  It is metaphysically linked to the third eye chakra, which is wisdom and spiritual understanding.
Two most popular gemstones linked to this color are saffire and lapis lazuli.
It is the color of truth, serenity and harmony, by helping to soothe the mind. It is good for cooling, calming, reconstructing and protecting. good for fevers, calming the body and mind, raising frequency, etc.Blue light tends to make you happy–like christmas lights…

Research suggests that exposure to blue light can increase confidence and boost happiness levels.

Purple is the color of knowledge. It is metaphysically linked to the crown chakra , which is the seat of the higher consciousness.
There are many gemstones linked to this energy, most commonly are amethyst and ametrine.
In art, purple is the color on the color wheel between magenta and violet and its tints and shades.
In human color psychology, purple is associated with royalty, regality, and nobility
In healing purple is good for emotional problems, rheumatism, epilepsy, reducing pain, deep tissue work, bones

Green is the color of well-being.  It is metaphysically linked to the heart Chakra, and is the symbol of expansion and love, understanding and compassion.
The most commonly known gemstones linked to this energy are jade and emerald.

Culturally, green has several contradictory meanings. In some cultures, green symbolizes hope and growth, while in others it is used to describe jealousy and envy, as well as anyone young or inexperienced. It is also associated with safety and well-being as well as natural elements and symbols such as  lizards.

Green is one of the Christmas colors as well, because evergreens were worshipped for their ability to maintain their color through the winter season. Romans used green holly and evergreen as decorations for their winter solstice celebration called Saturnalia, which eventually evolved into a Christmas celebration.

There is much more to say about the colors of our lives. Almost more than meets the eye!

Ametrine and what it can do for you

Ametrine necklace with rock crystal

This is the necklace of balance . The Ametrine holds the energies of duality and balance within the whole.
It is said to have all the metaphysical properties of both amethyst and citrine combined, as well its own unique properties.

joy and sorrow, abundance and lack, danger and safety, life and death. This is the duality of the ametrine.

Properties of ametrine:
Ametrine is a naturally occurring variety of quartz.  It is a “mixture” of amethyst and citrine with zones of purple and of yellow or orange, but classified as a crystal in its own right.
The different colors visible within ametrine are due to differing oxidation states of iron within the crystal.

This is what http://www.shimmerlings.com says about the healing properties of Ametrine:

“Physically ametrine strengthens the nerves, promotes the supply of oxygen to the body and helps to encourage the healing process after a serious illness.  The gem will stimulate the activity of the brain and enhance the wearer’s emotional awareness of life and creativity.

I also used the rock crystal in this necklace and earrings, the balance aspect is even further promoted .
Here is what http://www.charmsoflight.com says about Rock Crystal or Quartz:

Clear Quartz is known as the “master healer” and will amplify energy and thought, as well as the effect of other crystals.  It absorbs, stores, releases and regulates energy.  Clear Quartz draws off negative energy of all kinds, neutralising background radiation, including electromagnetic smog or petrochemical emanations.

It balances and revitalises the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes.  Cleanses and enhances the organs and subtle bodies and acts as a deep soul cleanser, connecting the physical dimension with the mind.  Clear Quartz enhances psychic abilities.  It aids concentration and unlocks memory.  Stimulates the immune system and brings the body into balance.  Clear Quartz (Crystal Quartz, Rock Crystal) harmonises all the chakras and aligns the subtle bodies.”

Jewelry design with energetic properties

Gemstones can do many beneficial things other than just being beautiful to wear…they can connect one to many different spiritual aspects . The color and the materials used, as well as symbols called totems or fetishes, can connect you to various energies inherent in these objects.

The American Indians use many animal totems in their jewelry design, such as the roadrunner (mental speed and agility), owl ( magic, prophesy, wisdom), and turtle (longevity, awakening to opportunities), just to mention a few. They are made of minerals and semi precious stones such as turquoise, obsidian, jade and lapis.
Gemstones come in many diverse forms and colours. Their different colours resonate with the body’s energy system and they are extremely useful for harmonizing an environment or wearing on your person as jewelry.
The various healing and energetic properties of the gemstones and crystals used can be utilized for a specific need, a birthstone, or can simply be enjoyed for its beauty and color properties which can greatly effect moods.

A birthstone generally is believed to connect you to the planetary influences of the month of your birth, and early civilizations have attributed gemstones with magical properties. Over time, astrologers assigned gems of certain colors to the twelve signs of the zodiac.

Aquamarine is the stone for March, Pisces. A gift of Aquamarine symbolizes both safety and security, especially within long standing relationships.

I have used the various gemstones in my Harmony Series
Each piece is made of a unique combination of colors and materials that represent specific energies for healing and well-being.
Several of these items also represent symbolic totems as well, like for example, the Fluorite Feather Pendant:

Fluorite stones in pale purple shades, crystals  with a stainless steel feather symbol pendant with an 18 kt gold accent.

A feather is synonymous with the soul, metaphorically speaking. They are light in weight and are the only means by which a bird is able to fly.
Feathers reflect the fact that no matter what physical obstacles are put in our way during our life’s journey, we all have the capability to rise above our fears and limitations and, in so doing, we will be able to rise to new levels of understanding.

The metaphysical properties of fluorite make this crystal a wonderful tool for psychic healing and spiritual development. It acts to protect from outside influences, manipulation, and mental influence. It also has a purifying effect on the aura and chakras, removing negative energy.
Fluorite is capable of speeding spiritual awakening.

Gemstones, like color and crystals, provide an energetic connection to nature, and are also connected to the angelic realm. Doreen Virtue, PhD has written much about the archangel energy, which includes their particular colors and influences.
http://www.soularenergy.com says this about the angels:
“These heavenly messengers, in particular the Archangels, have the powerful ability to help each of us simultaneously while offering their protection and guidance to bring about peace on earth.
Each of the 15 Archangels resonates with a special gemstone. Working with a particular Archangel’s gemstone can help you strengthen your divine connection and relationship with that Archangel.”
Doreen Virtue describes Archangel Michael with a royal blue and royal purple aura. The gemstones that connect  to him energetically are sugilite and amethyst.

One source on sugilite, http://www.bernardine.com/gemstones/sugilite.htm, says:
“Bright purple stones with little matrixing or blotches are the most valued. Gem grade sugilite is beautifully translucent and because it is quite rare it brings a high price.
It is said that sugilite strengthens the heart, aids physical healing and reduces stress. It is a balancer of mind, body and spirit and encourages peace of mind, a general feeling of well being and spiritual love.”
Shelly Kaehr, PhD has called sugilite a new age gemstone, because it contains lithium quartz, and Lepidolite, and is violet in color.
One source , http://www.bernardine.com/gemstones/sugilite.htm, says:
“It is ..suggested that sugilite seems to protect against and dissipate anger and other negative energies.”
Amethyst:
A “stone of change, protection & enlightenment”. Enhances spiritual awareness, meditation, visualization, serenity & composure. Attracts good luck & love, calms & transforms. Shifts energies to the higher frequencies of both the spiritual & ethereal levels.

His energy “escorts away lower energies in your space. Works with us while we sleep and enters our dreams to clear away fears. Helps with the qualities of love, power, strength & unwavering faith.”

I will be talking about the different kinds of jewelry available and various items that can be custom ordered for very specific purposes such as to help with depression, loss of a loved one, health issues, angelic connections, meditation , etc.

How do the healing properties of gemstones work, and why?

Precious and semi-precious gemstones have been used since recorded history and probably before, for spiritual, emotional and physical healing. Alternative healers all over the world use gemstones today.
Throughout history  gemstones have been utilized as powders or elixirs, worn, carried or placed on the body and in ceremonies or rituals. The popularity of holistic health and healing is bringing the use of gemstones once again into modern life.

What is the definition of a gemstone? Well,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemstone says that :
A gemstone or gem (also called a precious or semi-precious stone, or jewel) is a piece of mineral, which, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelry or other adornments. However certain rocks, (such as lapis lazuli) and organic materials (such as amber or jet) are not minerals, but are still used for jewelry, and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well.

Advanced thinkers such as quantum physicists comprehend the vibrational nature of matter and attest to the electromagnetic radiations of gems. All Gems are unique. A gem emanates a magnetically charged force that can influence any organic electrical body that is in its immediate sphere of influence.

There are many sites that feature gemstones and their properties, and I would like to provide a sort of synthesis here. For example http://www.soularenergy.com puts it this way:
“The energy field of different gemstones is influenced by geometrical form, colour and subtle vibration. Each stone is made up of minute crystals which are in constant motion thus emitting an energy signature or frequency. The gemstone’s colour also plays a dynamic role in the stone’s healing energy. The play of light and colour can stimulate or calm; purify or heal.”

How can therapeutic gems accomplish all this?  Gemstones are formed over eons, often at high pressure, the Earth’s gemstones embody intense concentrations of energy. Today, we employ the energetic and physical properties of gemstones in lasers to perform delicate surgeries and in computers to propel information around the globe. Similarly, we can use certain gemstones to focus and amplify the body’s innate energies to uplift our health.

I will be talking about color and how it relates to our energy in my next blog .
Some of the interesting examples of the healing and energy properties of more commonly worn  gemstones are as follows:

Amethyst:
Enhances spiritual awareness, meditation, visualization, serenity & composure. Attracts good luck & love, calms & transforms. Shifts energies to the higher frequencies of both the spiritual & ethereal levels.

Turquoise:
A general healer. Dispels negative energy & protects. Encourages self-realization and creative problem solving. Strengthens the body and energy field. Heals the spirit; soothes and brings peace of mind.  Attracts love.

Blue Topaz
Assists one in attaining clarity to successfully communicate & manifest desires. Lifts burdens & helps one to see the great overall scheme of life. Attracts abundance & love; relieves tension.

I will be discussing more gemstones and their very interesting specific properties, along with the properties of metals that are intrinsic to jewelry design.
